A Trip to Mom's - Family Treasures

A trip to Mom's always sends us home with something good.

Two days ago we dropped by and
came home with bags of frozen peaches and zuchini,
along with some wonderful farm raised pork and beef.

Today we were equally loaded after our visit,
but not with food.

Mom has been saving one of the irons from my grandmother's house for me.

It's incredibly heavy.

My second great grandmother made her living doing other people's laundry.

Flora Mae, my grandmother, outlived two husbands,
leaving her with children to care for.

I've learned these things from Census forms online.

It's amazing the information that is available.

I not only love to dig for vintage items,
but I love to dig for family history.

Can you imagine ironing with one of these?

Mom also had a claw foot table for me.
My brother had been storing it,
but had decided to return it to Mom.

So now it's mine.
It needs loads of TLC,
but it's going to be beautiful once it's completed.

I just love the feet!

The legs are amazing!

The glass balls are filled with tiny bubbles.

It's going to take alot of work to get this table back together.
I'm not very handy with these things,
but I'm going to figure it out.

You should have seen the bf's face when I told him I brought home a claw foot tub!
Slip of the tongue there,
but maybe someday I'll find one of those too.

  3. Your treasures are fabulous! Not only are they beautiful, but they have family history.
The table will be so nice after it is refinished.
Try a little Formby's refinisher on it first and see how much it will do for restoring it. It might need something stronger, but the Fromby's is easy to use, and won't over strip. It is probably all you need on the legs. The flat boards look like they need a good sanding too. Good Luck!
